We are proud to add this treasure trove of excellent, new, and handsome editions from Hungary to our catalogue. They provide a rich and invaluable collection of both pedagogical materials and baroque solo and ensemble music for one or multiple recorders with and without keyboard. The great majority of these compositions have never before been available in a modern performing edition and represent a significant and welcome addition to the recorder player's core repertoire.
The four volumes of Repertoire for the Recorder contain an enormous wealth of music for one and two recorders from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Baroque periods, with a few Classical and contemporary works for good measure, more than 150 pieces in all. The "A" volumes are for one or two recorders alone; the "B" volumes are for one or two recorders with accompaniment, and separate keyboard and bass parts are provided as well. This set will serve as a very comprehensive introduction to the literature for the recorder and early music in general; it should provide any one or two recorderists with enough material to keep them busy for several years. We highly recommended this rich anthology to all intermediate and advanced players.
Especially welcome is A Baroque Ornamentation Tutor by János Bali, a concise yet thorough introduction to 17th and 18th century performance practice by a leading Hungarian recorder player, teacher, and scholar. It includes an authoritative and concise introductory essay in four languages (English, German, French, and Hungarian) and forty compositions with written-out period ornamentation; a separate removable keyboard part allows all of these works to be readily performed. In addition, three generous appendices contain extremely useful information on renaissance ornamentation and performance practice, medieval basse dance tenors, baroque ostinato basses, and Quantz's profuse tables of ornaments. This superb and valuable publication is a must-have for every serious recorder player.
