The latest addition to our inventory of play-along publications is the new Dowani International series of solo recorder sheet music with CD recordings. These superb editions, from a small firm in the European principality of Lichtenstein, are the most exciting recent innovation in the entire field of recorder publications and recordings. The twenty well-chosen titles in this series comprise the most important works from the baroque solo repertoire for both soprano and alto recorder. They provide an easy and enjoyable way to learn, rehearse, and perform these works at one's one pace at home without having to recruit a keyboard accompanist.The concept is similar to the venerable Music Minus One series of music plus recordings that we have offered for years, but with two significant improvements: (1) each title includes the printed sheet music for both solo part and the keyboard accompaniment, not just the solo part, so the work may be performed separately without the recording if desired; (2) on the companion CD recording, each piece is recorded four times: an excellent finished performance by fine professional European early music performers, followed by three practice versions of the keyboard accompaniment with a faint recorder part at slow, medium, and final tempos.
